Strides for Life Returns for Its 10th Annual Charity Race

Strides for Life will return this coming weekend to Southampton Village. The 3-mile run/walk will benefit the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF), a nonprofit organization that supports research on innovative strategies for better treatments, screening and prevention of all cancers of the lung.
The event will be held on Sunday, August 9, around Lake Agawam.
Event-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Southampton Cultural Center, where participants can stop to pick up their race bibs as well.
The 3-mile run/walk will commence at 8:45 a.m. rain or shine. At 10:15 a.m., presentations and awards will be distributed at the finish line.
Then, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. is a children’s 50-yard dash for kids ages 2 to 10.
Strides for Life was one of the first benefit events to support lung cancer research and is the signature event of the Lung Cancer Research Foundation. Dedicated to raising awareness about the effects of lung cancer, Strides for Life encourages the public to become involved in the cause. Among cancers, lung cancer is a leading cause of death in men and women worldwide and the 3-mile run/walk is just one way the Lung Cancer Research Foundation raises the necessary funds for research to combat the disease.
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation anticipates a showing of more than 1,000 runners and walkers at the event. Participants—professional runners, first-time runners, teams, families, children, current and former lung cancer patients and survivors—are all expected to be in attendance.
The entrance fee for individuals 13+ is $45 per participant with a registration fee of $3. For children 12 and under, the fee is $25 per participant with a $3 registration fee, and participants 2 and under are allowed to enter for free. The children’s 50-yard dash will not have a participation fee. Team registration is also available. To register or for more information visit lungfund.org/events.
