Beth Stern Hosts Bash for the Bulldogs
On Monday night, Southampton’s Beth Ostrosky Stern hosted Bash for the Bulldogs, the Long Island Bulldog Rescue’s annual celebration to raise funds to help, heal and home the skyrocketing numbers of abandoned English bulldogs.
“Talk Stoop” host Cat Greenleaf and Water Mill’s Jill Rappaport, journalist and best-selling author, were among close to 200 people that packed the Rosenthal Pavilion at NYU’s Kimmel Center. NY1’s George Whipple emceed the event. Other guests included Jason B. Hurwitz, producer of the new bulldog movie The Dog Wedding and Tom Murro, host of Fox Morning Extra.
Stern took to the podium and said, “The problem is people don’t understand bulldogs. They should research the breed before buying. LIBR is overwhelmed with abandoned dogs this year—the cost is astronomical! Let’s raise lots of money and be heroes for the LIBR!”
Laurette Richin, the founder of LIBR, thanked the volunteers and veterinarians that attended, saying, “Thanks to the vets that help us get this done, and about 230 volunteers and their tremendous efforts 24/7.”
An online auction took place as guests enjoyed the food and drinks. They could bid on their phones as they enjoyed wines, cocktails and an Italian buffet served by Top of the Square catering.
Among the auction items were a bulldog sculpture signed by Howard Stern, a Lenox china puppy bulldog, a bulldog figurine by master sculptor Grant Palmer, David Yurman jewelry and many bulldog collectables, including mugs, ornaments, pillows, T-shirts and wine glasses.
