EHFD Watch Telephone Pole Burn, Waiting for PSEG
At 5:42 a.m. on Tuesday morning, February 23, East Hampton Fire Department personnel responded to reports of a telephone pole on fire at the corner of Miller Lane and Miller Lane West near the south end of Cedar Street in East Hampton Village.
The blaze was small when EHFD firefighters arrived, but they were forced to wait until PSEG could shut off the power to that system before they could safely attack the fire. Fire department responders watched flames climb the telephone pole and cascade down on nearby grass while they waited for word from PSEG.
Eventually, the utility did shut down the power, allowing units to extinguish the fire and soak the surrounding ground with a hose line.
