Dan's Rosé Soirée Countdown: Ron Goerler, Jamesport Vineyards

Meet Ronald B. Goerler Jr. of Jamesport Vineyards at Dan’s Rosé Soirée presented by PORSCHE and Rock Angel After Party, the official kickoff event of summer in the Hamptons on Memorial Day weekend (May 28) at the Southampton Arts Center—be sure to sample Jamesport Vineyard’s first Syrah “pét-nat”—pétillant naturel means “naturally sparkling”—and cab franc rosé there. As Goerler says, “Long Island wine is here to stay because of the commitment of the producers and their passion for making great wines. I have all Long Island wines in my cellar.”

What was the moment when you knew you’d have a career in wine?
At 17 I knew that the wine bug had bitten me—I met a group of winemakers who were very passionate about what they did.

Tell us about the most memorable wine tasting experience you’ve had?
When I was 18, traveling in Burgundy I had the best meal of my life with the mayor of Burgundy. It was an eight-course meal, with some of the finest wines I had ever drunk to this day.

My favorite dish to pair with a fine rosé is: a grilled salmon, or local fish, with roasted vegetables.

If I got a tattoo tomorrow it would depict: a bottle of rosé being poured over a naked woman.

What do you have in your kitchen that would make another food pro jealous?
A brand new, 48-inch six-burner griddle oven.

What skill or concept have you learned recently that you’re eager to use in your work?
Lots of patience

Why has rosé become ubiquitous in the Hamptons?
Because of Wölffer Estate Vineyards and Roman Roth producing great rosés. Pét-nats [sparkling wines will be the next big thing.

Why should consumers seek out local produce and wine?
No matter where you are in the world, you should always embrace the local region, whether with produce, meat or wines.

What are you most looking forward to about being a part of Dan’s Taste of Summer?
