Comedy Night To Benefit Kent

Kent Animal Shelter of Calverton presents An Evening of Comedy on Friday, May 4, from 7 to 10 PM at Hotel Indigo in Riverhead. The show, which sold out last year, will feature comedians from Laughter Saves Lives, a foundation dedicated to first responders.

It is the first of many Kent charity events happening in the upcoming months, including the annual dog walk at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard in the fall.

Established in 1968, Kent Animal Shelter celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year and recently received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, recognizing the not-for-profit’s “financial soundness and organizational transparency.” Entirely reliant on donations, grants, and service fees for operation, the Kent Animal Shelter finds forever homes for over 700 dogs and cats annually, working towards the worldwide goal of rescuing animals in crisis situations.

“We’ve entered into a contract to purchase two acres of property in Calverton. Our plan is to keep the current location but take the old kennel off of the [Peconic] river and return the area to its natural state,” said executive director Pamela Green. “We would like to put in a state of the art kennel facility with an interaction room, where people can come and interact with the dogs that they’re interested in adopting. We’ll have an education room, so that the kids can come and be educated on the animals.”

Kent Animal Shelter is a 501C3 organization that provides a no-kill haven for homeless animals, adoption services, a spay/neuter clinic, and humane education.

Tickets to the comedy show are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. The event will include snacks, a cash bar, Chinese auction, and 50/50 raffle. Visit http://www.kentanimalshelter.com for tickets. Hotel

Indigo is located at 1830 West Main Street.
