Join Group for the East End on Friday, January 10, from 6 to 7:30 PM as they howl at, and celebrate, the first full moon of the year — the Wolf Moon. Throughout this crisp guided one-mile walk, discover the sights and sounds of the preserve beneath the bright moonlight. Flashlight or headlamp suggested.

Shelter Island Library

Join P.A.T. Hunt co-chairman of the Taylor’s Island Preservation and Management Committee, for “The History of Taylor’s Island,” a talk about the interesting history behind this special place on Friday, January 10, at 7 PM.

Learn French on Thursdays through January with Alix Shearer and Elizabeth Heimann. Classes will be held at 11 AM at the Shelter Island Library. Rachel Foster helps brighten up the gray days of winter by teaching how to create colorful beaded wind chimes on Saturday, January 11, at 10 AM.

Full Moon At Mashomack

Walk the meadows of the Mashomack Preserve on Saturday, January 11. Breathe the fresh air, enjoy the open grasslands, and a view of Shelter Island Sound by the light of the full moon. The walk is from 7 to 8:30 PM. The trails at the Mashomack Preserve are open Saturdays and Sundays only from 9 AM to 4 PM throughout the month of January.

Riverhead Chamber of Commerce

The Riverhead Chamber of Commerce will host an after-hours networking gathering on Tuesday, January 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Cooperage Inn in Baiting Hollow. There will be a cash bar. The fee is $15 for members and $25 for non-members.

Throughout the month of January, the East End Arts in Riverhead will be offering classes for adults. Learn to paint with confidence, techniques to create expressive and interpretive landscapes, or learn about digital photography. Mattituck-Laurel Library

Bear Snores, Snowball Painting, and a Metropolitan Museum of Art Scavenger Hunt are just a few of the programs offered at the library throughout the month of January. The programs are for children of all ages.
