Mattituck-Laurel Library

Good Ground Artists’ “Visions for 2020” is on display in the Mattituck-Laurel Library’s art gallery through January 31. The exhibit highlights work from East End artists.

Teens can celebrate the Chinese New Year on Thursday January 23, at 3:30 PM with artist Lisa Baglivi as she leads a fun printing project using Styrofoam and ink. Registration is required, but the workshop is free.

The movie “Astra and The Three Snow Bears” will be shown on Friday, January 24, at 1:30 PM. All are welcome and is the film is free.

An eight-week Low Impact Dance Aerobics session will be held Mondays, January 27, 9 AM through March 23 (no class on February 17). Bring a mat, pair of dumbbells (three to five pounds) and a water bottle to class. Cost: $40. Register in advance at the circulation desk.

Historical Society Museum

There are many exciting exhibits at the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum in Riverhead.

“Polish Dolls and Folk Costumes” features festive handmade dolls and exquisite dance costumes from Poland.

“When Women Wore Whales,” through a display of 19th-century photographs, fashion magazine plates, whaling tools, corsets, parasols, and exquisite dresses, shows the changes in fashion from 1820 to 1920. Curated by Richard Doctorow, it is on display in the Weathervane Gallery.

“Native People of the Eastern Woodlands: Art and Artifacts” is an exhibit curated by Jamie Reason on view in the Staas Gallery through February. The Eastern Woodlands is a cultural area of the indigenous people of North America, consisting of tribes inhabiting the United States and Canada, east of the Mississippi. Art, artifacts, carvings, portraits, and tribal dress are on display.

“Urban/Suburban,” NYC & North Fork street photography by Neil Scholl will be in the Gish Gallery through February 29.

Diet And Lifestyle Talk

The Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital invites you to attend the eighth installment of “Your Health with Diet and Lifestyle Change” at Heron Suites in Southold on Thursday, January 23, at 4 PM. Jarid Pachter will start off session one discussing “Lifestyle as Medicine” and at 5:15 PM, Paula Montagna, in session 2, “Food and Medicine.” There will be a raffle and food demonstration and tasting. The Peconic Bay Medical Center’s new Cutchogue practice will officially welcome to the team Julia Chachere on Saturday, January 25, at 9:30 AM. She is a nurse practitioner in women’s health and also a midwife. She brings more than 30 years of professional experience to her new role. Refreshments will be provided.
