Mattituck-Laurel Library

Enjoy Pasta Amore with chef Robert Dell’Amore on Friday, February 14, at 5:30 PM at the Mattituck-Laurel Library. Join Chef Robert’s “Pasta of Love” demo, featuring an irresistible combination of savory and sweet. This pasta dish is made with chicken or sausage, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, zucchini, onion and garlic, in a light tomato sauce. Registration is required and fee is $5 per person.

Heart Art Day is Friday, February 14, from 10 AM to 7 PM at the library. Drop in and create a heart to make and take. Registration is required and is free.

Shelter Island Library

Find Short and Sweet Love at the Shelter Island Library in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Join John and Katherine Moore as they read short pieces, both true and imagined, on the subject of love in many forms on Friday, February 14, at 7 PM. Refreshments will be served. Long Island Science Center

Come see what the Long Island Science Center in Riverhead has to offer with its special holiday hours the week of Monday, February 17, through Friday, February 21, from 11 AM to 5 PM. Historical Fun For Kids

It’s kids’ week at the Suffolk County Historical Society from Wednesday, February 19, through Saturday, February 22, 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Have a family fun experience by playing out life in the past! There will be touch-table educational play stations, along with a scavenger hunt with prizes, dressing up in Colonial garb, playing old word games, etc. Free admission for children and $5 per adult. Black History At Hallockville

Celebrate Black History Month at Hallockville Farm. Learn about the importance of quilting to the African American culture. Join artist and author Faith Ringgold on Thursday, February 20, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, while she takes you through the world of “Tar Beach,” and how she uses quilting to tell stories. Students ages nine to 12 years old will listen to the book and create their own collage quilts to tell their own story. Members: $15; non-members: $20.

Also at Hallockville, children five through eight years old can join art teacher Darlene Siracusano in learning about how folk art was made throughout history. The morning lesson will begin by listening to a farm animal story and meeting Hallockville chickens. Kids will create their own folk-art rooster using colored collage paper, scissors, punches, and crayons on Tuesday, February 19, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. Members: $15; non-members: $20. Caregiver Support

Peconic Bay Medical Center Caregivers Center offers ongoing support meetings for caregivers. The next meeting of the support group specific to caregivers of those who suffer from Dementia and Alzheimer’s meets on Wednesday, February 19 from noon to 1:30 PM at the center’s multi-purpose room.
