2016 ELIH Golf Classic Honorees Selected
Eastern Long Island Hospital will honor Ryck and Alexander (Al) Koke of Southold at the 24th Annual ELIH Golf Classic.
The golf tournament will be held at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club on Wednesday, May 11, and participation will support the mission of ELIH, to provide essential healthcare services to the communities of the North Fork and Shelter Island, and pay tribute to Ryck and Al Koke of Coastal Pipeline Products Corp.
Ryck and Al Koke are well known in the North Fork community. Al takes great pride in being a “North Fork native” and a “Stirling Baby” — the name given to anyone born at Eastern Long Island Hospital before the maternity ward closed in 1983. His great grandfather was the late Dr. J.H. Marshall, elected as president of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Association in 1916. Dr. Marshall served in that capacity until 1920 and was here when the first x-ray machine was installed. Ryck, a nursing professional from New Jersey, is happy to call the North Fork home. Ryck continued her career on the North Fork as a RN at ELIH in 1972 before retiring from San Simeon by the Sound in 2001.
Ryck and Al have raised their family in Southold. Together they have three married children and 10 grandchildren. They are both golfers and members of the North Fork Country Club.
Eastern Long Island Hospital acknowledges their many years of service to the hospital through their business as well as personally with their involvement in the gala each year. In 2002, they hosted a summer gala at their home raising $95,000 for Operation: Emergency Expansion, a capital campaign to rebuild and expand the emergency department. Since 2002, Ryck has been actively involved on the Gala Social Committee and assists with everything from planning to decorations and theme.
Al is President and Chairman of the Board at Coastal Pipeline Products Corporation, a concrete pipe and precast concrete manufacturer located in Calverton that specializes in underground drainage and utility products. Founded in 1988, Coastal has grown to be the premier concrete products supplier for Long Island and the New York metropolitan area. In addition to championing the gala, Coastal Pipeline Products Corp. supports the Golf Classic each year.
Gardiner’s Bay Country Club is a par 70 private golf course, located on Shelter Island with scenic water views. Highlights of the day include a barbecue lunch, 18 holes of golf with tournament prizes, grab-and-go sandwich wraps at halfway, cocktails, dinner and awards ceremony. The golf classic will be played in a “shamble” format. The “shamble” format is designed to move the game along, allow all foursomes to finish and compete for prizes.
