Southold Farm + Cellar Earns High Marks from Wine Enthusiast Magazine
North Fork family winery Southold Farm + Cellar received significant accolades from Wine Enthusiast in the magazine’s December issue.
The vintners’ Southold 2014 Illegitimi Non Carborundum Red earned a score of 93 points out of 100 and was named an editor’s choice.
The grapes—Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot—were sourced from Rex Farr’s The Farrm, an organic farm and vineyard just down the road from Southold Farm + Cellar. The wine was aged in neutral barrels for seven months. Only 190 cases were produced.
“In only a few vintages, winemaker Regan Meador has created a splash in the New York wine scene and this Bordeaux-style red blend is a testament to the hype,” Wine Enthusiast contributing editor Anna Lee C. Iijima writes. “A deft blend of Old and New-world styles, it contrasts silky, rich black cherry and currant flavors against deep layers of granite minerality, leafy herbs and potpourri florals. It’s complex and yet so effortlessly brisk and spry. The finish is endlessly meandering.”
