Kate Spade Selling Southampton Mansion

Designer Kate Spade has put her Southampton mansion up for sale.

The 6,700-square foot home on just shy of 3 acres was once the boardinghouse for renowned painter William Merritt Chase‘s Art Village, a summer school for art based in Shinnecock Hills. The Art Village is still a unique destination and all the shingle-style cottages surrounding the original studio remain intact, complete with narrow lanes and huge 100-year-old trees.

Spade‘s property, 9 Studio Lane, is the largest in the Art Village and it features rambling gables, leaded glass windows and deep porches. Over its 120-year history, the home has seen the addition of a 1920s era freestanding ballroom, an enchanting jewel box studio cottage, another one-bedroom staff residence and, most recently, a two-car garage. It has cedar roofs and updates to the kitchen, baths, heating and electrical—all in keeping with the home’s historical character.

The house has a total 8 bedrooms, 6 baths, 3 fireplaces, a formal dining room, large eat-in kitchen, family room, three ample porches and a grand brick terrace. Outside, the property has lovely gardens and rolling lawns.

Spade has listed the property for $4.75 million, down from the previous asking price of $5.4 million, with Krae Van Sickle and Lylla Carter of SaundersSee the listing here.
