The winners of the 2013 Dan’s Papers Literary Prize for Nonfiction were announced on Monday night at the John Drew Theater at Guild Hall in East Hampton, during a ceremony that included a stirring keynote address from author E.L Doctorow and more literary talent than you can fit on a bookshelf (but that’s why we have our Nooks, right?). From among hundreds of entrants who submitted pieces that showcased the East End of Long Island in a meaningful way, two second-place recipients and a first-place winner accepted their awards onstage in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
First-place honors and a prize of $5000 went to Susan Duff for her piece “Moving Through Water.” The two runners-up prizes of $500 each were awarded to Eve Eliot for “Why East End is an Excellent Place to Die” and Joe Carson for “The Naked Kingdom.” Congratulations to all.
