Alexa Ray Joel Covers Dad's 'Just the Way You Are' in Gap Ad

Alexa Ray Joel, 27, stars in a new commercial for GAP that debuted Friday, performing her cover of father Billy Joel‘s 1979 Grammy winning Song of the Year, “Just the Way You Are.”
Joel is a frequent Hamptons visitor, as her dad has a home in Sag Harbor and her mother, Christie Brinkley, lives in Bridgehampton.
According to Gap, Joel chose the song herself. The music video is directed by Danny Clinch and was shot in a single, unedited take. Joel, performing solo, sings and plays keyboard. She wears her father’s ring and uses the same kind of keyboard he used to record “Just the Way You Are.”
The song, which is available on iTunes, is accompanied by a series of films, interviews, quotes, images and facts that extend the reach of the Gap “Back to Blue” television campaign to computers, smartphones and social media.
Also for “Back to Blue,” Dhani Harrison performs “For You Blue,” a Beatles song written by his father, George Harrison, and released on “Let It Be” in 1970.
The ads will air in North American and worldwide on television, in movie theaters, in stores and on taxi TV.
