Cops: K-9 Unit Tracks Down Attempted Car Thief
When East Hampton Village police arrived Thursday night at 10 Buell Lane Extension in response to a report of someone trying to steal a car, the would-be car thief ran away, authorities said.
The officers got there at 8:04 p.m. and requested the assistance of East Hampton Town police, who helped set up a perimeter, plus a Riverhead Town police K-9 unit and Suffolk police helicopter. Police said the K-9 unit tracked down 33-year-old James G. Sbardella, of East Hampton, at a nearby property.
After his arrest, Sbardella was also linked to a November 11 burglary at 10 Talmage Lane, according to police.
Sbardella is charged with second-degree burglary and attempted fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was arraigned at East Hampton Town Court Friday and Justice Lisa Rana ordered him held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
