October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Events on the East End

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but events and programs began before the official month and go into November throughout the East End, raising awareness and funds for research, education and support for patients and loved ones. Find more events in our calendar!

Sunday, September 28, 7:30–11 a.m.
The North Fork Breast Health Coalition hosts the 16th Annual 5K Walk at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. Visit eewn.org.

Wednesday, October 1, 6:30 p.m.
Pink Tree Lighting. The Coalition for Women’s Cancers and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, with Southampton Hospital, along with the Southampton Chamber of Commerce, hold their annual lighting in front of the Chamber of Commerce in Southampton Village.

October 3, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Breast Cancer Awareness Health Fair at Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton. Call 631-726-8715.

San Gennaro Feast of the Hamptons
October 4-5 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Good Ground Rd, Hampton Bays
Join the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at the most delicious event of the season – the San Gennaro Feast of the Hamptons! Enjoy Italian food specialties, shop with local vendors, and enjoy time with friends. Proceeds from the Feast benefit the Coalition for Women’s Cancers. October 8, 4 p.m.
Give Where You Live Campaign Kickoff at Parrish Memorial Hall in Southampton. Designed to create awareness about the need for support to our East End charitable organizations. Call 631-728-6241.

October 14, 1–3 p.m.
Look Good, Feel Better Program at the Hampton Bays Library. The event benefits the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital. The library also has a monthly support group. Visit hamptonbayslibrary.org.

October 18, 11 a.m.
Shelter Island 5K at Crescent Beach, Shelter Island. Proceeds benefit Lucia’s Angels (a foundation committed to helping women and families on Eastern Long Island with late-stage women’s cancers) and the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital. Register at shelterislandrun.com/5k.

October 18, 5:30–8 p.m.
10th Annual (and final) Birdhouse Auction at Southampton Social Club, 256 Elm Street, Southampton. Proceeds benefit Lucia’s Angels. Visit luciasangels.org.

Free Makeovers for Breast Cancer Survivors

Everyone deserves some pampering. If you are a breast cancer survivor, make your appointment for a free makeover at a Macy’s makeup counter. November 8, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Chicks with Sticks Yarn & Craft Sale at Parrish Memorial Hall on the grounds of Southampton Hospital. Throughout the year, Chicks with Sticks knitting group makes prayer shawls for women undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Proceeds benefit Lucia’s Angels, The Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center.

November 14, 7–10 p.m.
Girls Night Out at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk. The 6th Annual Pink Event, an evening of wine, hors d’oevres, fashion, spa and more. Benefits Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital. Call 631-668-1892.
