BookHampton Launches Home Delivery Service
BookHampton has launched a same-day home delivery service for bibliophiles living between Southampton and Montauk.
“The service started because I was taking books to people’s houses and found out that some of our customers have a hard time getting around,” says bookseller Kim Lombardini. Now, avid readers young and old can simply call one of BookHampton’s locations, request a book, and an employee will deliver it to your home. If the book isn’t in stock, BookHampton can order it and then deliver it.
“We want people to remember that we live out here year-round,” says Lombardini, who notes that employees can drop off books on their way to or from work.
BookHampton currently has two locations, in East Hampton and Southampton. The North Fork store was recently forced to close.
“We’re fighting with everything we’ve got,” said Lombardini in a press release. “We really know books. We recommend great books, and if what it takes for people to order books from us is delivering the books, then I’ll be the first to do that, too.”
BookHampton, which turns 45 years old next month, is a literary landmark, hosting such notable authors as Joseph Heller and Joyce Carol Oates, Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel and Hillary Clinton.
“All our book events have always been free,” says manager Chris Avena. “So, perhaps people have forgotten that we are a bookstore. If we don’t sell books, even in the cold months, we’ll have to close our doors. That’s the harsh truth.”
BookHampton is located at 16 Hampton Road, Southampton (631-238-0270) and 41 Main Street, East Hampton (631-324-4939). Visit bookhampton.com.
