Matt Lauer Appears in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix

Hamptonite and Today show anchor Matt Lauer appears as himself in the first episode of Netflix‘s new original comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Created by 30 Rock executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the show stars Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids) as the titular Kimmy Schmidt, a woman who is rescued from an Indiana apocalypse cult. Free after 15 years of living in a fallout shelter and believing (skeptically) that the outside world had been destroyed, Ellie starts her new life in New York City. In short order, she finds an apartment with an eccentric roommate, Titus Andromedon (played by Tituss Burgess), and a job as a nanny for neurotic socialite Jacqueline Voorhees, played by Hamptonite Jane Krakowski, of 30 Rock. Much of the humor lies in Kimmy’s naive character, who essentially stopped maturing after being abducted in her early teens—hence the signature light-up sneakers and purple JanSport backpack.
Lauer shows up early in the debut episode when he interviews Kimmy and her fellow abductees, the “Indiana mole women,” on NBC’s Today show. It’s this interview that brings Kimmy to New York, which she quickly claims as her new home.
