Riverhead PD: Man Shoplifting Ammo Had Assault Rifle, High-Capacity Magazines
Riverhead police responded to Walmart Saturday on a report of a man shoplifting ammunition and found that not only was he armed with a handgun, he had an assault rifle and magazines in his vehicle.

NARRATIVE: On Saturday, February 28, 2015 at approximately 4:48 p.m., the Riverhead Police Department responded to the Walmart on Route 58 in Riverhead in reference to a report of a male shoplifter inside the store.
Walmart security reported that the male subject had removed ammunition and was attempting to conceal it upon his person. Upon arrival, uniformed officer’s located and approached the subject, identified as Nicholas Kieltyka 09/05/1984. Upon placing Kieltyka into custody, he was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife. A further search of his person revealed that he was carrying a loaded .40 caliber handgun on his waist, along with an additional magazine also loaded with .40 caliber rounds. A further investigation at the scene was conducted and a search of Kieltyka’s vehicle revealed that he was in possession of an unauthorized Assault Rifle with numerous high capacity magazines. Kieltyka was transported to the Riverhead Police Department where he was processed and held for a.m. arraignment.
