David Sedaris Returns to Guild Hall
Humorist and essayist David Sedaris is returning to Guild Hall in East Hampton this summer. The author of Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames and Holidays on Ice, among many others, sold out his reading and signing at the John Drew Theater last August, and it’s likely he’ll sell out again in July.
Known for his acerbic wit, personal revelations and social commentary, Sedaris has become one of America’s greatest satirists and observers of the human condition. He regularly appears on National Public Radio and the pages of The New Yorker magazine, he’s been featured twice in “Best American Essays” and his audio book, Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls, earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word Album in 2014. There are 7 million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages.
Sedaris, who has performed all over the country, including Carnegie Hall and Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, will read his work onstage at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater. A book signing will follow, and the author often adds amusing sayings or quick drawings to books, which could be quite a thrill for fans.
An Evening with David Sedaris is scheduled for Monday, July 27 at 8 p.m. at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater (158 Main Street) in East Hampton. Tickets are $48–$150, for sale online now at guildhall.org, and in the theater box office starting May 1, 631-324-4050. Plenty of seats are still available, but the show is likely to sell out once the summer crowds arrive.
