As the summer season makes its way to Long Island, travelers to the East End will now be able to escape congested traffic with a brand new means of transportation.

Launching Friday, May 22, the Sea Jitney, in partnership with Seastreak and Hampton Jitney, will transport passengers aboard a high-speed ferry.

A relaxing ride to Port Jefferson is in store for travelers from Manhattan, Connecticut and New Jersey. After disembarking in Port Jeff, passengers continue their journey via bus to enjoy their weekend exploring the summer friendly towns of Calverton, Southampton, Sag Harbor or East Hampton.

“Sea Jitney is a game changer for people who travel between Connecticut and the Hamptons,” Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry General Manager Fred Hall says. “At 2-and-a-half hours from Bridgeport to Southampton it’s shorter than going through NYC and much less stressful.”

“We are confident customers will enjoy travelling in comfort and style through the beautiful Long Island Sound on our luxurious vessels equipped with high-end amenities like high-backed seating, a full bar and Wi-Fi service,” Seastreak President Jim Barker says.

From Manhattan, the Sea Jitney takes about two hours to travel to Port Jefferson. The last leg of the journey, by bus, takes about one hour to the Hamptons.

Sea Jitney service is geared toward weekend travel and has three departures on Friday from Manhattan, Bridgeport, and Highlands, New Jersey, and three returning departures from the East End on Sunday.

The Sea Jitney departs from Manhattan at 9 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Fridays, 9 a.m. on Saturdays and 11:05 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sundays. Departing times from Bridgeport are 9:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. on Fridays, 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Sundays. Highlands departing times are 8 a.m., 12:20 p.m., and 4:55 p.m. on Fridays, 8 a.m. on Saturdays and 10:05 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. on Sundays.

One-way fares range anywhere from $33 to $50 considering the starting point and destination.

The Sea Jitney’s services will be available weekends starting May 22 and ending September 9, excluding July 4; reservations and advance payment are required.
