Shop 'til You Drop: Beauty, Sun and Fun on the East End
Summer is in full swing, and there are plenty of exciting events going on. Celebrate beaching and boating at Navy Beach’s 3rd Annual Summer Riviera weekend on July 25 and 26 (16 Navy Road, Montauk) with DJ sets on the beach. Local photographer James Katsipis will be on site capturing the scene and festivities. You’ll also find a special Chandon American Summer pairing menu.
Also on deck is the 10th annual Strides for Life walk, which will take place on August 9 beginning at 8:45 a.m. in Southampton to benefit the Lung Cancer Research Foundation. Southampton Mayor Mark Epley will be the honorary chairman for the event. Entry fee for ages 13-plus is $45, plus a $3 registration fee. For ages 12 and under the fee is $25 per participant, plus a $3 registration fee. Participants 2 and under are free. The children’s 50-yard dash will not have a participation fee. Team registration is also available. Register online at lungfund.org/events.
On the fashion front, custom denim brand 3×1 has a new collaboration with surfboard company TOKEN. The two brands collaborated on unique boards with denim inlay and the option to customize—all made in the U.S.A. You can find them at the denim brand’s new Southampton boutique (44A Main Street).
Two jewelry trunk shows are also worthy of highlights. Urban Zen Sag Harbor (4 Bay Street) will be hosting the Aayenda Jewelry trunk show August 1 and 2 with founder Sophia Swire. The brand is dedicated to fostering economic stability and empowerment through work opportunity for hundreds of Afghan artisans. Then, on August 6 in Southampton at Betteridge Jewelers (2 Jobs Lane), fine jewelry brand Paul Morelli will be hosting a trunk show and cocktails with 10% of all proceeds benefiting the Southampton Hospital.
Beauty-wise, we’ve been highlighting sunscreens all summer long—and for good reason. Skin cancer rates are growing, and much of that is due to improper protection. For durability no matter the heat, check out Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Lotion Sunscreen (Walgreens, 1196 Old Country Road, Riverhead). It’s part of the brand’s new line of high performance sunscreens and is made with an oil-free, non-greasy formula that won’t clog pores. It’s fast absorbing, and you can splash in the water for up to 80 minutes. (Just don’t forget to re-apply afterward!)
For post-sea and sun, JĀSÖN Smoothing Coconut Body Wash (Rite Aid, 82 Nugent Street, Southampton, $15.75), will quickly replace sand and other summertime environmental damage and replace it with a sweet summery scent and cleansed, moisturized skin thanks to Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Vitamin E and other antioxidants.
Take things up a notch and sooth sore muscles with bareMinerals Lathering Loofah Invigorating Body Scrub (qvc.com, $28). It will not only boost circulation to help alleviate soreness, but it will rid your body of dead skin cells, leaving a smooth surface for tanning and hair removal.
Hair-wise, we finally don’t need to splurge to get the results we’re after thanks to the mass-market launch of DESSANGE Paris. The owner, Jacques Dessange, is responsible for creating Bridget Bardot’s iconic blonde look. We are big fans of Solar Blonde Naturale (target.com, $9.99–$11.99). The new collection works to naturally lighten hair with the heat of the sun—minus any damage. And we all know what they say about blondes…
When all is said and done, kick back with the Gaiam’s Ultimate Back Reliever (gaiam.com, $34.98), a high contoured back reliever that will work to relieve back pain, improve flexibility and enhance proper alignment. It’s the perfect tool to workout any build up tension or to help stretch out the spine inbetween massage appointments.
Pompette (66 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-377-3400) offers an eclectic mix of contemporary resort wear, mixing jewelery, denim, accessories from Italy and irresistible scents and candles. Unique, handmade shoes and sandals from il Sandalo of Palm Beach are also available. The store will be holding a special event this Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 featuring DL 1961 denim.
