Southampton Town Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver
A motorist fled after rear-ending a car on Montauk Highway in Southampton on Saturday evening, seriously injuring a local woman, according to police.
Southampton Town police reported that Maureen Dean, 66, of Southampton, was driving a 1995 Saturn sedan eastbound near West Gate Road when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2004 Honda Civic. Dean’s car went off the road and into a telephone pole.
Dean was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County medevac helicopter.
New York State Police, Suffolk County Sheriff K-9, and Southampton Town police searched the area for the male driver of the Civic, who fled the scene prior to police arrival. The New York State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s responded to the scene.
