Mannix Studio of Art Holds First Classes in East Hampton
East End artist and gallerist Karyn Mannix’s much-anticipated Mannix Studio of Art, aka The Studio, is offering its first art classes in East Hampton this Saturday, March 19. And to mark the grand opening, classes will be 50 percent off on March 19 and March 26.
The Studio is designed to helping students of all ages develop their creative minds, regardless of experience. Students will have the opportunity to learn from distinguished art professionals, as well as fellow students in the East Hampton art community. All workshops will have a limited number of participants to ensure that each student will receive individual instruction and critique with a focus on a better understanding of skill and creative purpose.
“The main reason for me opening The Studio, was that there was nowhere in the Hamptons that had one base where you could go to for art lessons at any age, especially not for numerous types of art, including guitar, magic and circus art,” Mannix says, sharing her excitement for the opening and, as she puts it, “to bring art back to the Hamptons.”
“I’ve had this idea for over 20 years, and it happened as a total fluke,” Mannix recalls. “I used to teach private art lessons, and I was leaving a lesson one day when I saw a landlord putting up a sign that said the future property for The Studio was available for lease. I’ve always wanted to do this in the back of my mind, and when I saw the sign, I thought to myself ‘I’m going to take the building,’ so I just did it,” she continues. “I kept my blinders on, my eye on the prize, and three months later The Studio was ready to open.”
Karyn Mannix has been teaching art in the Hamptons for over 20 years. She is the former education director for The Children’s Museum of the East End, she operates Karyn Mannix Contemporary as a gallerist, art dealer and consultant. Mannix is also a professional artist and event planner. Her work is regularly displayed at the Peter Marcel Project.
