'To Catch a Thief' Screens at Southampton Arts Center

Southampton Arts Center continues its Free Friday Night Outdoor Screenings with Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, on Friday, August 19, presented in partnership with Hamptons International Film Festival and sponsored by Dan’s Papers.
Based on David Dodge’s 1952 novel, this romantic thriller from 1955 stars Hollywood great Cary Grant as John Robie, a retired cat burglar who goes after “The Cat,” a new cat burglar who is destroying his reputation by robbing rich tourists on the French Riviera using all his signature moves. Another cinema legend, Grace Kelly, plays opposite Grant in what would be her final Hitchcock film. To Catch a Thief led Hitchcock to cast Grant in his classic 1959 movie, North By Northwest.
Robert Burks earned the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for this film, which was also nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. John Michael Hayes wrote the screenplay. Look for Hitchcock’s ubiquitous cameo about 10 minutes in. Rated PG.
The screening take places on the grounds of the Southampton Arts Center at 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton Village. Bring a blanket or beach chairs and picnic on the lawn!
Guests can test their knowledge during a round of To Catch a Thief trivia prior to the film.
Approximate start time: 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19.
