It’s time to switch out your tank tops and bathing suits for sweaters and jackets. But while we will miss the Hamptons summer, the East End fun doesn’t have to end! Fall is the perfect time to go apple and pumpkin picking, and one of the many excellent spots to try out is the Milk Pail in Water Mill. Owned by the Halsey family and open every weekend in September and October—Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m.—Milk Pail’s U-Pick has a large variety of apples and pumpkins to choose from.

Apples and pumpkins can be picked right from the vine at Milk Pail. Dwarf apple trees are just the right size for kids to pick themselves, and the pumpkin patch has everything from minis to some over 150 pounds. Milk Pail also serves coffee, hot cider and other goodies from the Fresh Market.

Everything “U-Pick” from Milk Pail is grown on-premises. Apple varieties include tart flavors like Cortland and Empire, sweet Gala, Golden Delicious and Honeycrisp and more. Pumpkins include Acorn Squash, Baby Boo, Cinderella, Spaghetti Squash, Sugar, Sweet Lightning Squash and more.

Of course, we couldn’t talk Milk Pail without mentioning their delicious apple cider doughnuts. Made in an old-fashioned doughnut machine, these favorites sell out regularly. New this year is the Milk Pail’s peach ice cream and apple sorbet made with apple cider and apples.
