Rent
When: May 19, 8 p.m.
Where: The Gateway, 215 South Country Road, Bellport
What: The beloved Broadway musical comes to The Gateway. Set against the backdrop of an AIDS-inflicted Manhattan circa 1989, Rent tells the story of a group of friends living in a decrepit apartment building in the East Village. Though their surroundings are dire, the makeshift family of artists and bohemians find light and hope in each other as they deal with growing up, illness, drug addiction and other hardships. Rent is based on the opera La Boheme.

LIVE MUSIC
The Purple Xperience: A Tribute to Prince
When: May 19, 8 p.m.
Where: Suffolk Theater, 118 East Main Street, Riverhead
What: The Purple Xperience is a five-piece tribute band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since 2011, they’ve been touring the country bringing the music and memories of the beloved Prince and the Revolution to audiences of all generations. Frontman Marshal Charloff channels the vocals and movements of the legend himself. While the show starts at 8 p.m., come at 6:30 to enjoy Suffolk Theater’s restaurant and bar. FESTIVALS & FAIRS
Long Island Fleece and Fiber Fair
When: May 20, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Where: Hallockville Museum Farm, 6028 Sound Avenue, Riverhead
What: Head to Hallockville for two days of ongoing demonstrations and activities, including livestock and animal displays, spinning, knitting, weaving, rug hooking, needle arts, quilting, basket weaving, crocheting, historic tours, exhibits and fiber vendors. The Long Island Fleece and Fiber Fair is the first of its kind in the area to bring together lovers of the fiber arts.

East Hampton Spring Celebration Street Fair
When: May 20, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: East Hampton Village
What: For the first time in over 300 years, the Village of East Hampton is holding a street fair. Over 80 booths will line Newtown Lane, where local artists, shopkeepers non-profits and more can display their wares. There will be a Main Street Stage, featuring live music all day long, Hampton Free Ride will be providing shuttle service from John Marshall Elementary School. Amber Waves Farms will provide a hands-on farming exhibit for both kids and adults. Kids can also enjoy a climbing wall, jumping castle and more. Enjoy this new annual event!

DAN’S PAPERS
Dan’s Literary Salon
When: May 21, 4 p.m.
Where: Southampton Arts Center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton
What: In honor of Dan’s Papers Literary Prize for Nonfiction, you are cordially invited to Dan’s Literary Salon readings at Southampton Arts Center.
