EHTPD: Two Charged With Domestic Violence

By T. E. McMorrow
2 minute 07/30/2019 Share

A Montauk man is facing a felony charge of criminal contempt of a court order after allegedly threatening an ex-girlfriend on the night of July 22. According to the East Hampton Town police, Greg Weinstein, 54, entered Nick & Toni’s on North Main Street in East Hampton when he saw the woman with another man. According to police, he warned them that if there was anything “going on, I’m going to kill you,” threatening to do bodily harm to them both.

A stay away court order of protection had been issued for the woman last October. Weinstein reportedly told police, “I came in here for dinner and I just happened to run into” the complainant. He was released the next day after posting $500 bail.

A Springs man for whom an arrest warrant was issued in 2006 by former East Hampton Town Justice Catherine Cahill was finally brought before the court on Saturday, July 27. Jose Castillo, 54, was arrested on two misdemeanor charges, one accusing him of choking a female companion, the other of endangering the welfare of her child. East Hampton Town Justice Lisa Rana said during Castillo’s arraignment Saturday that after the 2006 arrest, he had failed to show up for his court date, and so an arrest warrant was issued.

Rana said that the 2006 charge, while only at the violation harassment level, was also along the lines of domestic violence, and she set bail at $1000, which was posted.
