Mattituck-Laurel Library

On Thursday, September 26, at 11 AM, Mattituck-Laurel Library will host a fall watercolor workshop. Join Victoria Beckert to start practicing different brush strokes as well as creating textures with salt and candle wax, learn how to mix paints with water, and then paint your own watercolor masterpiece. All supplies are provided. Registration is needed in advance of the event, and can be done at the circulation desk. There is a $10 non-refundable fee to do so.

On Friday, September 27, at 1:30 PM, the library will show the film “Wild Rose” (2018 R), a troubled young Glaswegian woman who dreams of becoming a Nashville country star. The film is open to the public.

On Sunday, September 29, at 2 PM, Bill Bleyer will present hia novel Long Island and the Civil War at the library. Learn the history of Long Island’s Civil War both in the field, where more than 3000 young men from Long Island answered their country’s call to preserve the Union, and at home in stories and images from the co-author of the eponymous History Press publication. Registration is free.

On Monday, September 30, at 4 PM, Perler bead creations will be at the library to help those in grades seven to 12 design their own keychain or magnet. Children can create thir own Perler bead designs or use templates provided by the library. Free registration is required.

On Wednesday, October 2, it’s Baby’s Rhyme Time for those up to 12 months with a caregiver from 9 to 11 AM. Join for Mother Goose rhymes, puppets, stories, and action songs. Registration is free.

On Wednesday October 2, at 5 PM, a Georgia O’Keeffe acrylic painting session will take place. Improve your artistic skills with Lisa Baglivi as you study the technique and style of O’Keeffe while creating your own canvas art using acrylic paints. Registration is $10.

ARF Tailgating Adoption Event

On Saturday, September 28, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons presents Tailgating, a cat and dog adoption event, at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead from 11 AM to 4 PM. Look for the fleet of ARF vehicles chock full of cats and dogs looking for their forever home. If already a dog owner and serious about adopting, bring your furry friend with you for a mandatory meet and greet. Admission is free, but adoption fees apply. All ARF animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated to their age limit.

BNB Bank Workshops

Community Action Southold Town and BNB Bank will be hosting workshops involving discussions on understanding your credit and starting a small business as part of the Engage, Educate, and Empower series. Bank specialists will share practical knowledge and resources that participants can use to educate and empower themselves.

These workshops, presented by Greg Vlahakis, will be held October 1 and October 8 from 6:30 to 8 PM at Floyd Memorial Library, located at 539 1st Street in Greenport. To register call Helen Lopez at 631-477-1717 or email hlopez@castsoutholdtown.org. The event is open to community members and refreshments will be served.
