Fire Destroys Van in Wainscott
A work van parked in front of a Wainscott residence on Townline Road caught fire Wednesday afternoon, sending up a plume of smoke that was visible for quite a distance.
Bridgehampton Fire Department closed a stretch of Townline Road between Montauk Highway and Parsonage Lane while firefighters battled the blaze. First Assistance Chief Jeff White said it was unclear how the fire started. The van was parked in the driveway and the paint on the house blistered due to the flames, but the house did not catch fire, according to White.
East Hampton Town police were also on scene. Firefighters were dismissed at 2 p.m.
