Hamptons Epicure: The Inside Skinny on Dan’s Taste of Two Forks

By Stacy Dermont
3 minute 07/21/2011 Share

Last Saturday the East End celebrated its food culture in style with a selection of dishes and wines from over 60 top restaurants and wineries under one huge tent at the first annual Dan’s Taste of Two Forks at Sayre Park in Bridgehampton.

Here are some of my personal highlights from this mega food event:

Marcus Samuelsson’s outfit—100% vintage Erkel.

Sarabeth Levine told me she’d recently set her hair on fire.

I saw a well-dressed woman lick her plate off.

When I looked down and saw a purple stain of unknown origin across my cardigan I thought, “Well, now it’s a party!”

I met winemaker Tree Dilworth’s (of Comtesse Therese) mom. She’s the coolest—you can see her working the vines on the Comtesse Therese website.

A fan told me that for her, reading my restaurant reviews “makes her feel like she’s right there.” That was my favorite moment among many high points. Then a guy came up and asked me what a “Hamptons Epicure” is. I loved it.

There was plenty of Pellegrino.

Here’s what people always ask me for—highlights of what was in the event’s goodie bag –

Judy Carmichael’s latest compact disc, Come and Get It.

Some T-Salon tea.

A Bideawee wine glass. Odd, but kinda cute.

Copies of Opinionated About U.S. Restaurants 2011 by Steve Plotnicki AND the Zagat Long Island Restaurants 2011/12, Including Hamptons Hot Spots and a Listing of Noteworthy Wineries.

Four black pin-back buttons promoting “A-List New York,” which urges everyone to watch something on television on Monday, July 25 at 10 p.m.

A DropStop from L’Aventure Languedoc “for pouring wine without spilling a drop”—for people who don’t drink it from the bottle, I guess.

A royal blue spatula from Gilt City.

DashaWellness Vanilla Lip Balm (with SPF 15 for Hamptons lip protection).

Discount tickets for all kinds of services.

Two forks.

I’ll admit that I was hoping to find a full bottle of Pisco Porton in there. The celebs got Pisco in their bags. Maybe next year…I am shopping a book around…

I’m taking a Jitney pointed toward the Fingers Lakes for the weekend. I’ll be sure to report back on what the foodies and “winies” upstate are up to these days.
