Grown on Long Island Day Celebrates Local Bounty
We all love local farmers markets, but only one celebrates the whole of Long Island.
The third annual Grown on Long Island Day celebrates the Island’s regional farming and produce this Friday, August 9 at Suffolk County Farm & Education Center in Yaphank.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this countywide farmers market event will offer a variety of fun, farm- and food-related activities, including local food and wine tastings, farm animals, $2 wagon rides, Long Island roasted corn, a food drive for Island Harvest, kids’ food challenge (registration ended August 2) and the opportunity to explore a century-old working farm.
Additionally, several master chefs will perform Grown on Long Island recipe demos and two local chefs will battle it out in a “Seafood Throwdown.” Admission is free.
Suffolk County Farm is located at 350 Yaphank Avenue in Yaphank (take Exit 67 on the LIE).
