A multiple-car accident near where Sunrise Highway/Route 27 meets County Road 39 has closed traffic in both directions Friday afternoon just before the 5 o’clock rush hour.

Originally just the westbound lanes were closed, but now all four lane—two in each direction—have been closed so that wreckers can get on the scene and remove the vehicle. Southampton Town police said four ambulances went to the scene, two from Hampton Bays and two from Southampton, though no serious injuries are reported.

At 4:50 p.m., police said the highway should be back open within a half hour.
