Who Makes the Best Taco in the Hamptons? You Decide!
The honor of displaying a Dan’s Best of the Best signature blue ribbon is no small thing for East End businesses. And now that BOTB voting is fully underway, it’s time to examine this year’s nominees and decide who deserves your vote.
We added a few new categories in 2015 that are worth a closer look.
In the South Fork Food & Drink category, for example, the current ballots include newcomers “Best Taco” and “Best Frozen Yogurt.” Let’s start with the new Taco category today (we’ll look at froyo soon) and see who has the best taco in the Hamptons.
The five nominees are presented here, starting with the business with the most votes, as of Monday, September 14, in descending order.
Sabrosa Mexican Grill in Water Mill (1152 Montauk Highway, 631-726-6565) is currently leading the pack in first place, which would earn a Platinum award if they stay on top. Locals love this new eatery for its casual vibe and endless options for tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, salads and more. This place makes your meal on the spot, right in front of you. Who wouldn’t love a taco with their choice of fresh ingredients, made exactly how you want it, every time?
Following in second place, Orlando’s Café in Hampton Bays (40 W Montauk Highway, 631-728-2608) is beloved for its wide range of food, including lots of classic Costa Rican dishes, and a unique and delicious breakfast menu. Offered through casual counter service, their tacos are done in the traditional style with fresh ingredients and delightful flavor.
Sag Harbor mainstay La Superica (1 Main Street, 631-725-3388) is packed year round with locals and visitors who come for the vibrant bar scene and excellent food. Portions are big and the tacos and taquitos are bursting with beans, cheese and meat. If Mexican comfort food ever becomes a thing, this would be the place to get it.
Farther east, in Amagansett, La Fondita (74 Montauk Highway, 631-267-8800) is an oasis of traditional Mexican delights, and tacos are their specialty. Much like the “street food” in markets and taquerias around Mexico, this local favorite serves small tacos in soft corn tortillas, with a choice of filling—including pork, chicken, beef, steak, fish or vegetarian—topped with cilantro, onions and one of several salsa options. You’ll want to order the five-pack.
La Pradera in Hampton Bays (174 Montauk Highway, 631-594-5550) rounds out the list. Guests love it for the made-to-order Mexican and Latin food, including excellent tacos, of course, generous portions and nice outdoor patio dining, along with great Margaritas and sangria.
