Trail’s End Restaurant was sold this month for $2.175 million to Montauk summer resident Michael Nasti, and it will reopen soon under the name The Talk at Trail’s End.

The former owner, Robert Rottach, ran Trail’s End as a family business for 31 years, according to The New York Times.  Dylan Eckardt of Nest Seekers represented both seller and buyer in the transaction.

Nasti assures Montauk residents and others who love Old Montauk that Trail’s End will not change in character.

“Montauk has always been a place for families, but now you can hardly go out without music blaring, people screaming and who knows what,” Nasti told The Times. “We want to create something where you can have a nice meal, enjoy a few bottles of wine and escape the insanity.”

The menu will be from executive chef Steve Paluba, who has been featured on Hell’s Kitchen. Renovations and design will be handled by Anna Cappelen of Curious Yellow NYC.

According to The Times, Trail’s End was the first restaurant to open in Montauk, back in 1927. And legend has it that it once changed ownership in a card game.
