Scarlett Johansson Records 'Alice in Wonderland' for Audible

Amagansett resident and four-time Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson and her sister, successful voice actress Vanessa Johansson, are coming together for an upcoming, unabridged audiobook of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland which will be available for purchase through Audible on February 23.
Vanessa Johansson has directed her younger sister Scarlett in her narration of the piece, and between the sisters’ combined voice acting talent, and Vanessa’s broad experience with audiobooks, their performance of Carol’s work promises to be a good one.
Vanessa Johansson is a voice-actress best known for her role in Battle for Terra as well as her narration of dozens of audiobooks, including Where We Belong, The Queen’s Ransom and the 314 series. Audible’s employment of the Johansson sisters follows a tradition of Audible productions featuring big-name celebrities recording great works of fiction. A point of pride for Amazon, the company’s “a-list collection” of Audible productions includes performances such as Being There narrated by Dustin Hoffman, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz narrated by Anne Hathaway and Thérèse Raquin narrated by Kate Winslet.
The Johanssons’ adaptation of Carol’s international best seller will be available among Audible’s range of audiobooks along with other classics by big celebrities such as The Return of the Native by late actor Alan Rickman, Gulliver’s Travels voiced by Hugh Laurie and The Great Gatsby voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Johansson’s interest in voice-acting is little known, yet apparent in her previous roles in TV and movies such as The Spongebob SquarePants Movie and Her. She also voices the Kaa character in the much-anticipated live-action version of The Jungle Book, scheduled for release on April 15 of this year. Scarlett’s narration of Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland isn’t her first audiobook—she previously recorded Ann Packer’s The Dive from Clausen’s Pier and The Snake Chief: Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales for Audible. Scarlett and Vanessa Johansson’s adaption is available for pre-order, and has a run-time of 164 minutes.
