Gwyneth Paltrow Launching 'Planet of the Apps'

Hamptons resident Gwyneth Paltrow will join internet personality Gary Vaynerchuk and hip-hop artist will.i.am in a new unscripted television series, Planet of the Apps, co-produced by Apple Inc. and Propagate.
The three celebrities will be mentors to app developers/contestants who will have an opportunity to receive advice as they develop their own visionary and problem-solving apps. As the show progresses, only the strongest apps will remain in the competition, with one winner going away with funding and a featured placement in the App Store.
“Developing and launching a business based on your own original idea can be exhilarating, but intimidating,” Paltrow says. “This is a great opportunity to be part of a series that lets us use our experiences to help app developers break through and create viable businesses that will impact peoples’ lives.”
Applicants with a functional iOS, macOS, tvOS or watchOS app can apply to become a Planet of the Apps contestant through the Planet of the Apps website, planetoftheapps.com. The application includes a one-minute video including an introduction, background about the app and expected future finances. The show also wants to know how the app will impact others.
Planet of the Apps also teamed with Production Hunt to go on a four-city tour, visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston and New York. The event was an opportunity to meet with other tech entrepreneurs and to hear from the team behind the series.
Paltrow, who is an executive producer on the show, earned a solid standing in the technology world after launching her lifestyle website, goop.com. The female-focused site, which launched in 2008, includes everything a woman needs to know, from travel destinations to career advice, book reviews and even online shopping. All of goop’s categories fit into several action-word headlines including Make, Go, Get, Do, Be and See. These categories capture the attention of women across the country, and made Paltrow one of the internet’s most successful people.
In addition to her website’s success, Paltrow is an Oscar-winning actress (she won Best Actress for her performance in Shakespeare in Love), a bestselling cookbook author and a mother.
Planet of the Apps is expected to film in late 2016 to early 2017.
