Neil LaBute’s 'The Money Shot' Opening at Southampton Cultural Center
Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) will present the Long Island premiere of Neil LaBute’s The Money Shot from Thursday, January 19 to Sunday, February 5 at SCC’s Levitas Center for the Arts.
An acid-tongued showbiz satire, The Money Shot, premiered at the MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theater in New York in 2014.
The play takes place in the Hollywood Hills home of couple Karen and Bev. Karen and Steve are glamorous movie stars with one thing in common: desperation. It’s been years since either one’s had a hit, but the latest movie by a hot shot European director could change that. The night before filming a big scene (that seems destined to assure them a spot back on the pop culture radar), Karen, her partner Bev, and Steve and his aspiring actress wife Missy meet in order to make an important decision: How far will they let themselves go to keep from slipping further down the Hollywood food chain?
Called “sexy, daring and darkly hilarious,” The Money Shot is LaBute’s first officially billed comedy―and it lands as sharp and hot as a paparazzo’s camera flash in a starlet’s eye.
Joan M. Lyons makes her solo directorial debut with this production, which also features WPPB’s Bonnie Grice as well as Joseph Marshall, Tamara Salkin and Kristin Whiting.
Performances will run Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. on the stage of The Levitas Center for the Arts, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, across from Agawam Park. General admission is $22 and student (under 21 with ID is $12). Group rates and brunch/dinner theater packages available at scc-arts.org or 631-287-4377. Reservations are encouraged.
