Jonni Lisowy made a catch at the outfield wall to prevent a game-tying homerun in the top of sixth inning to help lead No. 2-seeded Mattituck to a 5-2 win over No. 3 Babylon in the Suffolk County Class B consolation bracket final May 23. Bryce Grathwohl had two hits and two RBI to help the Tuckers avenge their opening playoff loss, a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Cougars May 21. Conor Fox earned the win, striking out five in seven innings.

Tyler Olsen struck out eight in a complete game win over No. 5 Southampton May 22 to help Mattituck move through the losers bracket. Grathwohl had three hits and three RBI and Fox added two hits and two RBI in that win.

Mattituck (16-6 overall, 13-4 in League VIII) visited No. 1 Center Moriches May 28 for the first game of a best-of-three championship series, but results were not available by press time.

Center Moriches pulled out three close wins in a series sweep of Mattituck in late April and early May, earning the sweep with two one-run wins April 29 (2-1) and May 2 (5-4) and a two-run margin (3-1) on April 30.

Tuckers In Boys Lacrosse Finals

The No. 1 Mattituck/Southold boys lacrosse team (8-8 overall, 6-8 in Division II) faced No. 2 Port Jefferson (10-6, 8-6) in the Class D county final May 28 at Farmingdale State College, but results were not available by press time.

The Tuckers fell to the Royals 12-7 back on April 4. Port Jefferson goalkeeper Peter Murphy made 16 saves in the Royals’ win. Ethan Schmidt had scored two goals for Mattituck and five other Tuckers got on the stat sheet, including Dane Reda, who had a goal and two assists. Luke Wojtas had made eight stops for Mattituck.

Mattituck Softball Still Alive

Ashley Perkins connected on a bases-clearing single in the bottom of the second inning to spark No. 3 Mattituck to a 6-4 win over No. 4 Hampton Bays in the Class B quarterfinal May 24. The Tuckers were already up 2-0 heading into the inning, and were up 6-0 by the time Hampton Bays recorded three outs in the second.

Lilly Fogarty picked up the win, throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts. Hampton Bays fought back with three runs in the third and one in the sixth.

Mattituck (12-6, 8-6 in League VI) advanced to take on No.1 Babylon in the semifinal May 28, but results were not available by press time. The winner will face No. 2 Center Moriches in the finals May 30 at Eastport-South Manor High School at 4 PM.

Mattituck was sent to the outbracket after a 15-5 loss to the Red Devils May 22. The Tuckers also dropped a two-game series against Center Moriches by 5-1 and 10-3 scores April 24 and 29.

Because Mattituck and Babylon were eliminated by Center Moriches this postseason, the game will be a winner-take-all if Center Moriches wins. If the Red Devils lose they’ll get a second chance to pull out a victory June 1 at 3:30 PM back at the Eastport Complex.

Mattituck Girls Lax

No. 1 Mattituck/Southold’s girls lacrosse team (11-5 overall, 9-5 in Division II) will face No. 2 Babylon (8-9 overall, 7-7 in Division II) in the Class D championship Thursday, May 30, at Farmingdale College at 2 PM. The Cougars took down No. 3 Port Jefferson 20-6 May 22 to make it to the finals. Mattituck did not face Babylon during the regular season.
