The Sanctuary

Having never been to The Surf Lodge for a wellness program — shudders in embarrassment— being one of the first invited to try the new Surf Lodge Sanctuary excited me. Located at 716 Montauk Highway (Suite 3) in Montauk, Surf Lodge has moved its entire wellness program to a 1500-square-foot space in town, open to the public, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Co-founders Jayma Cardoso and Marisa Hochberg have continued their wellness journey together by expanding their reach. The space fits 40 people a class with four classes a day, every day, starting in July. There are even plans for a retreat to come this fall. But how will hotel guests at the trendy boutique hotel get into town? Surely, no one expects them to walk, so they will be offered complimentary rides in a comfortable BMW. If you have a choice, I’m recommending riding over in the BMW X7 with a panoramic glass roof. There’s just something about an open top with salty air that captures the essence of luxury Montauk.

The studio itself invites guests into a clean, open space. With white wash, gray tones, and a simple statue in the center of the room, the wall-to-wall windows face out to the street to provide natural light. You might be trading in those formerly iconic water views for a more traditional studio space, but The Sanctuary offers hotel guests the opportunity to get intimate with Montauk, getting out and saying hello, while inviting others to join in as well.

The shop includes products from Lord Jones CBD, Costa Brazil, Ursa Major, MoonJuice, and activewear by Free People Movement — with fabric so soft you’ll want to live in it. All in all, Cardoso and Hochberg do a successful job of rooting themselves into the community, yet again.

Upcoming classes this week are as follows:

Friday, June 14, 10AM, Y7 Vinyasa Flow

Saturday, June 15, 9AM Y7 Vinyasa Flow, 10AM Torch’d, 11:15AM Y7 Vinyasa Flow

Sunday, June 16, 10AM, Y7 Vinyasa Flow
