Teeny Awards Needs Judges

Are you an arts educator? Do you have a theater background or work as a theater professional? East End Arts’ Teeny Awards Judging Committee is looking for volunteers to evaluate high school theatrical performances on the East End for the 2019-20 school year.

The c is a high school theater recognition program, founded and run by East End Arts. Now entering its 18th year, it recognizes and celebrates talented theater students across the East End. In June, the winners are announced at a Teeny Awards gala ceremony.

Guacamole, Grief Counseling

On Wednesday, September 18, come watch Peconic Bay Medical Center chefs prepare a healthy, delicious meal, and sample it too. Peconic Bay Medical Center registered dietitians will be available to answer any questions. Fresh guacamole with cucumber “chips” and veggies is on the menu. Peconic Bay Medical Center, 1300 Roanoke Avenue, Riverhead Conference Room A & B (2nd floor) 12 to 1 PM. Visit www.pbmchealth.org for more info.

The center will also offer “Mind/Body/Spirit: Tools for the Grieving Heart,” free yoga and meditation classes facilitated by certified grief counselor Christine Gallo. Group A will meet on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM from September 24 through November 19. Group B will meet on Thursdays from September 26 through November 21. Mattituck-Laurel Library

On Thursday, September 19, at 10 AM, at the Mattituck-Laurel Library, there will be Corn Cob Painting for preschoolers (with caregiver). Dress for a mess. Also, on Thursday at 5 PM, there will be Emoji Cookies for grades seven to 12.

Friday, September 20, at 1:30 PM, enjoy the film “Saint Judy,” the story of immigration attorney Judy Wood, and how she initiated the change in U.S. law of asylum to save women’s lives. Same day, from 2 to 5 PM, come experience the world of virtual reality with the library’s HTC VIVE system. Each participant will be given the opportunity to use the VIVE for 30 minutes. For ages 12 and up.

On Monday, September 23, at 6 PM, there will be “Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors.” This program provides practical information and resources to help dementia care partners decipher behaviors and learn how to best respond.

On Tuesday, September 24, at 10:30 AM, Babies Boogie will be held for ages three to 24 months (with caregiver). Enjoy this high-energy, interactive movement and music program. At 11:30 AM is Toddlers Tango for ages 25 months to three years (with caregiver), a high-energy experience with fun musical props for you and your toddler.

About Marie Curie

On Thursday, September 19, at 6 PM, “Book & Bottle: Marie Curie’s Life and Work,” with Edward Sierra, will be held at the Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead.

Learn about Marie Curie, a scientist and an early pioneer of radioactivity, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two different sciences. Sierra is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former reactor operator. Historical society members are admitted free; non-members, $5. The fee includes wine and cheese and admission to current exhibits. Voter Registration Day

For National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, September 24, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will be volunteering across the East End in 10 communities, including those on the North Fork.
