Surfrider Foundation

The Surfrider Foundation will hold its fall chapter meeting and executive committee elections at The Spur at 280 Elm Street in Southampton Wednesday, November 6, from 5:30 to 7 PM. The meeting is open to all. Stay for pizza.

Saturday, November 9, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, Hampton Bays Middle School students will host a beach cleanup, documenting their finds for the Surfrider Foundation. No registration is necessary and all are welcome. While there, learn about how to lead a beach cleanup.

Hampton Bays Library

Chess lessons for adults with Ulysses Tapley will be Wednesdays, November 6, 13, 20, and 27, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Hampton Bays Library. It is recommended to attend all four classes. Space is limited, and open to Hampton Bays Public Library cardholders only.

A Salute to Hampton Bays veterans will be held Tuesday, November 12, from noon to 1 PM. Meet senior residents and brave wartime heroes. Also, be sure to check out the veterans display in the downstairs lobby, on loan from The Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society. Lunch, generously donated by Panera Bread in Hampton Bays, will be served to Hampton Bays veterans and their families.

Rogers Memorial War Talks

Historian Dr. Martin Levinson will be at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Thursday, November 7, at 12:30 PM for a talk titled, “World War II: “The Good War.” Dr. Levinson will discuss the causes and effects of that war and how it has been depicted in popular culture.

A jam session for local musicians and fans will be held Thursday, November 7, from 7 to 8:30 PM. Participants may bring their instruments. A Steinway piano and microphones are available.

Patricia DelGiorno will present “Women War Correspondents” Wednesday, November 13, at noon. She will talk about the experiences of the women who broke the rules and covered combat zones, defying the notion that war coverage was the exclusive province of male writers. Register at www.myrml.org.

Amagansett Library Kids Fun

The Amagansett Free Library will offer a duct tape creations course Friday, November 8, at 4 PM, for kids 8 to 12. Children will use duct tape to create various projects.

“Pirates! Storytime & Project,” will be held Saturday, November 9, at 9 AM. Best for children ages 3 to 6.

A lip balm workshop will be held Saturday, November 9, at 2 PM, for kids 8 to 12. They will make their own lip balm using natural and non-toxic ingredients.

Long Pond Greenbelt Events

The Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt will hold its monthly meeting at 6 PM Monday, November 11, at the Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center in Bridgehampton.

A full frost moon hike will be held Tuesday, November 12, from 6 to 7 PM, co-sponsored by Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt and the South Fork Natural History Museum. The frost moon is also known as the Full Beaver Moon. For Native Americans this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Meet at the SoFo museum parking lot, at 377 Bridgehampton Turnpike, 200 yards north of the railroad tracks.

Free Qigong Class

Sunday, November 10, at 12 PM, a free metal element Qigong class will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse at 977 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike. All are welcome. For more information, call Tina at 631-723-1923.

Social Media Chamber Chat

The East Hampton Chamber of Commerce’s “coffee & conversation” will be held Tuesday, November 12, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at Nick & Toni’s. The topic, social media do’s and don’ts, will be presented by Ashley Fresa and Steve Haweeli of WordHampton Public Relations. Complimentary bagels and coffee will be served. Admission is free for members and $15 for non-members.
