Hamptons Dance Project

Jose Sebastian and the Hamptons Dance Project return to Guild Hall with another exciting mix of new and classic work from a diverse blend of noted choreographers featuring top-flight artists from American Ballet Theatre and beyond. The program this year showcases many new pieces, including a new specially commissioned work from singer-songwriter Pat Alger.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Author’s Night
Now through August 15

This summer, the East Hampton Library will host its annual Authors Night fundraiser as a series of events, both online and in-person. On Friday at 6 p.m. Taylor Barton and G.E. Smith will perform an outdoor concert on the grounds of the library, and Barton will sign and discuss her book I Pitched a Tent in Hell. On Saturday from 4–6 p.m. guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with a select group of authors, buy their books and have them personally inscribed. Many more one-hour Zoom event will be held in the format of a conversation with the featured author and a noted interviewer, followed by a Q&A period.

Musica Mundana: Italian Duets
Monday, August 16, 7:30 p.m.

Raquel Winnica Young and Justin Wallace of Musica Mundana team up with guests Pascale Beaudin and Scott Pauley for an irresistible program of Italian love duets. George Frideric Handel composed 21 miscellaneous duets during his lifetime, and the bookends of this virtual concert will feature two of these rarely performed musical gems. Registration is free but required. After the live premiere, the concert will be available on-demand the following week.

East End Photographers Art Show

The Water Mill Museum’s Expressions show features traditional and digital photography from local artists. You can visit for free on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. or on Sunday from 1–4 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays–Wednesdays.

Cristophe von Hohenberg Exhibition

Gahan Wilson Exhibit

Cartoonist Gahan Wilson, a summer Sag Harbor resident for over 25 years, is known as the “Master of the Macabre.” His cartoons and illustrations can be viewed at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum from 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. on Thursdays–Saturdays.

Abstract by Nature: Paintings from the 1950s to the Present
On view through September 6

Inspired by nature, the works presented in this Phillips Southampton exhibition are an exploration of the purity of color and form in American abstraction from the 1950s Post-War era all the way up to its contemporary iterations. The exhibition includes works from Abstract Expressionism and Color Field Post-War masters such as Jules Olitski, Hans Hoffman, Adolph Gottlieb and Kenneth Noland. It also aims to showcase their eventual influence on the abstract practices of contemporary artists, such as Mark Grotjahn, Jennifer Guidi and Petra Cortright. Works included in the exhibition will be offered through Phillips’ private sales platform and at auction in NYC this fall.
