The Most Powerful Man in the Hamptons?
Hamptonite Michael Bloomberg has been deemed the 17th most powerful person in the world by Forbes magazine. Impressive, to be sure, but on a more important note, does that make the NYC Mayor—who recently bought a really nice house in Shinnecock Hills—the Most Powerful Person in the Hamptons? Follow us on the math.
President Barack Obama tops the Forbes list, followed by Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Microsoft honcho Bill Gates. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke came in 8th, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg is in the number 9 slot. Not an East Ender among them—nor in any of the 16 places ahead of Bloomberg.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was ranked 16th, but since she merely visits the Hamptons from time to time with husband and former president Bill Clinton (who sits at number 50 on the list) and doesn’t actually own a house in the Hamptons, by our calculations Bloomberg takes the most Powerful Person in the Hamptons honor.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he always has a table at the Hampton Classic Horse Show where he watches his daughter compete every year.
