The Hamptons and Victoria’s Secret Forever Bound
When the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show hits CBS tonight, the most-ogled aspect of the evening with have a distinct Hamptons heritage. No, we’re not talking about the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio or Adriana Lima. We’re talking the Fantasy Treasure Bra by London Jewelers. The Long Island–based jeweler, with locations including East Hampton and Southampton, is the designer behind the $2.5 million bra that everyone will be buzzing about when Miranda Kerr showcases it for the world to behold.
Victoria’s Secret models have been known to do shoots out in Montauk at the Andy Warhol Estate, but it’s something of a higher order for the East End to be so intimately entwined in the 2011 fashion show’s show-stopping moment—which is saying something for a night that will have performances by Kanye West and Jay-Z, Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj, plus a nonstop parade of Angels.
The first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was held at the Plaza in New York City in 1995, with models wearing sweater sets (okay, not only sweater sets, but but you get the point) and not a network TV camera (that didn’t come until 2001) nor Angel. Yes, that’s right—no Angels. Hard to believe, right? Kind of like envisioning the Hamptons without any beaches.
Although Angels now refers to the brand’s most visible spokeswomen (the fashion show models are referred to as “Runway Angels”), the Angels started out as a Victoria’s Secret lingerie line. The models featured in the original advertising campaign in 1997 were Helena Christensen, Karen Mulder, Daniela Pestova, Stephanie Seymour and Tyra Banks. The current lineup of Angels including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge and Lindsay Ellingson has done them proud, but for tonight we might play favorites…at least while Miranda Kerr has on that $2.5 million bra.
