Southampton Center Launches Free Family Programming for Summer

Southampton Center, a new arts and cultural center located at 25 Jobs Lane in the heart of Southampton Village, announced Monday a schedule of free programs to be presented from July 12 to August 25.

The free programming includes a diverse slate of movies, visual art, live music and dance performances, interactive educational workshops and children’s programs.

“We are proud to partner with this wonderful group of producing organizations and artists in our inaugural season,” said Southampton Center Board Chair J. Whitney Stevens. “This summer we hope to offer an array of programming for everyone to enjoy. It is exciting to engage with the community to define this space for future generations.”

Programming for this inaugural summer includes live performances with East End favorites such as Goat on the Boat puppet theater as well as national organizations such as Jazz at Lincoln Center.  Southampton Center has partnered with the Hamptons International Film Festival to screen indoor and outdoor films. The film series will feature both classic favorites as well as highly anticipated independent films not yet released in theaters.

In July, an exhibit of photographer Diane Tuft’s works and a lighting installation by Bentley Meeker will address critical issues of climate change and personal consumption. David Michalek will also present an excerpt of his renowned Slow Dancing, which has been seen at Lincoln Center and Trafalgar Square in London. August will feature several site-specific experiential installations from Eric Corriel, Wade Kavanaugh & Stephen B. Nguyen, Aurora Robson and Krista Dragomer.

“The Village of Southampton is committed to a cultural use for 25 Jobs Lane and is enthusiastically working with Southampton Center,” Mayor Mark Epley said. “The array of arts and cultural programming offers a new way to experience this beloved building and grounds. We are thrilled to welcome Southampton Center as a new neighbor in our community.” Epley was among those responsible for getting the Southampton Center project off the ground after the Parrish Art Museum moved to Water Mill and left its previous home on 25 Jobs Lane vacant. The Town has big plans for the space, including a multimillion-dollar renovation, but it will continue to offer programs there in the interim.
