Typhoon Relief Concert Planned at Bay Street
Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman and WPPB 88.3 FM radio personality Bonnie Grice will host a concert Sunday, November 24 at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor to raise money for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Gene Casey, Nancy Atlas, Lola, The Vandettas, Inda Eaton, Joe Delia & Thieves, and The HooDoo Loungers are slated to perform and even more acts are expected to be added to the lineup.
The suggested donation at the door is $25, but Bay Street says any amount one can give will be accepted. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
Organizers are also seeking donations of items and gift cards that can be offered as raffle prizes.
“We are so pleased how everyone has volunteered to put this together quickly,” Bay Street Theatre Executive Director Tracy Mitchell said. “Our producer Gary Hygom is always willing to book and coordinate all the bands, clear sets, and do whatever it takes to make these benefit evenings happen. And Jay Schneiderman is always on the phone to me immediately following any large disaster to see if we can work together and provide support from Suffolk County residents to people in need. It’s nice to be able to help.”
Crossroads Music is providing sound gear and local restaurants have agreed to help feed the bands and crew on the concert date.
Locals with friends and family affected by Typhoon Haiyan are asked to share their personal stories at the benefit. “The personal stories are important and we want to be sure we are supporting our neighbors and friends who may need additional support at this time,” Schneiderman said.
Anyone looking to volunteer for the event can email Barbara Oldak at [email protected].
Bay Street Theatre is located at the corner of Bay and Main streets in Sag Harbor Village.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 24.
