Hamptonite Barbara Walters aired her annual special, Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People, on Wednesday, when she named former First Lady/New York State Senator/Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the most fascinating person of 2013.
Clinton, a frequent Hamptons renter and visitor, was Walters’ first most fascinating person when the special debuted in 1993. Walters and Clinton discussed the politician’s extensive and sometimes controversial career, along with the personal hardships she’s faced. When asked if she’d run in the 2016 presidential race, Clinton responded, “I haven’t made up my mind. Obviously, I will look carefully at what I think I can do and make that decision sometime next year.” Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, joked that he would be her “first mate” should she be elected. The 42nd president made an appearance at the 2013 Artists vs. Writers Softball Game in East Hampton.
Walters’ other picks for 2013 included Robin Roberts, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, the cast of Duck Dynasty, Jennifer Lawrence and Prince William and Duchess Kate’s baby George.
Clinton has the distinction of being Walters’ first and last most fascinating person; the storied television journalist announced her retirement earlier this year.
Walters is slated to receive a lifetime achievement award from Guild Hall next year.
