Flanders Road Partially Closed Most of the Day for Accident Investigation

A stretch of Flanders Road, a.k.a Route 24, will be closed most of the day Thursday as police investigate a serious accident involving two vehicles, according to authorities.

The crash involves an SUV and a utility truck.

The road, which connects Riverhead to Hampton Bays, is closed in between Pleasure Drive and Bellows Pond Road. The crash was reported at 7:57 a.m., Southampton Town Police Sergeant Michael Joyce said.

In addition to town police, also responding to the scene are New York State police, the Flanders Fire Department and Flanders Ambulance.

Traffic is being diverted to Route 104.

Police said details of the accident are not available as of yet, though that information should be coming later Thursday.
