Hampton Bays and Southampton firefighters were called to a Hampton Bays beach Saturday when bystanders reported a vehicle on fire, and after the flames were out a man was found dead inside, according to police.

Southampton Town police said the burning vehicle was reported at about noon on a beach access road at 107 North Road. When police arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in fire.

In addition to town police detectives, the Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad, the Suffolk County Arson Squad, Suffolk County Police Crime Scene Unit, and the Suffolk medical examiner’s office responded to the scene.
