A Hampton Bays woman who was driving a sedan is in critical condition and her passenger, from Water Mill, is dead following a single-car accident in Southampton Village early Saturday.

Southampton Village police said they were called to the accident on Flying Point Road, near the Montauk Highway intersection, at 2:37 a.m. A 1997 Toyota Avalon was found resting next to a tree.

The passenger, 24-year-old Jason H. Pollak, was taken by Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver, 25-year-old Allison Jane Rydberg, was extricated from the vehicle by the Southampton Fire Department then transported by Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, according to police. She is listed in “critical, but stable condition,” police said.

Village detectives and the New York State Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the accident. Witnesses are asked to call village police at 631-283-0056.
